Resized so you cannot tell it was resized
People resize rugs for all sorts of reasons — a new room, damaged ends, a desire to move a piece from living room to hallway. When the cutting is clean and the new border is matched correctly, a resized rug looks original. When it is done carelessly, the rug unravels.
Most rugs can be resized safely. Some antiques cannot — and on those we will tell you so before we touch the piece.
Our resizing process — step by step
- 01
Measurement & planning
Precise measurement and pattern-aware marking of cut lines. We never cut before the plan is agreed in writing.
- 02
Precision cutting
Clean edges, no unravelling. The cut runs along the weave, not through it.
- 03
Re-bordering
Matching or complementary border applied. We draw from a stock of period-appropriate borders for antique pieces.
- 04
Overcasting
All edges hand-overcast in matching thread to seal the foundation permanently.
- 05
Final inspection
Dimensions verified to the tolerance you signed off on. Photographed before return.
