Glencoe is a small village with an unusually architectural identity. Its residential stock includes houses by Howard Van Doren Shaw and David Adler from the early twentieth century, mid-century moderns from the postwar expansion through the ravine bluffs, and contemporary work from Chicago-area firms commissioned by clients who understood what they were building. The Chicago Botanic Garden sits at the north edge of the village; the Ravinia Festival grounds border the south — shaping a community that thinks carefully about aesthetic choices.
The rugs in Glencoe homes reflect that: Oushak pieces with the soft, faded palette that works with Prairie-style light on Greenwood Avenue; wool-silk blends in the formal rooms of the Dundee Road estates; flat-weave kilims chosen for their geometry in the modernist houses east of Sheridan Road. What these rugs share is that they were selected carefully — and they merit a conservation approach to cleaning rather than a commodity one.
A conservator, not a carpet cleaner
Every rug we clean is dye-tested before washing, dusted to remove embedded grit, hand-washed with pH-appropriate chemistry matched to its fiber, thoroughly rinsed, and dried flat under controlled conditions. No hot water. No alkaline detergents. No forced-heat drying. The method is slower than hot-water extraction and it produces a fundamentally better result on wool, silk, and natural-dye rugs.
For Glencoe clients with designer-chosen or architect-sourced pieces, we also provide written condition documentation on intake and at completion. This is useful for insurance purposes and for estate records, and it is increasingly requested by the interior designers and estate attorneys we work with across the North Shore.
Pricing and turnaround
Standard cleaning starts at $250 and is priced by square footage and fiber type. Wool and hand-knotted rugs run $5/sq ft. Persian, Oriental, and silk pieces are quoted individually after a free assessment. Most rugs are returned within 5–7 business days from pickup.
