We collect rugs from homes and buildings across Lincoln Park, along Armitage Avenue, Clark Street, Fullerton Avenue, Lincoln Avenue and Sheffield Avenue, in the DePaul area and in the lakefront neighborhoods. The washing, drying, repair, restoration and inspection of every rug all take place in our 10,000 sq ft workshop in Skokie.
Designer-sourced contemporary rugs
We treat a designer-sourced contemporary rug as an individual piece. Before it is cleaned, we identify how it was made, whether hand-knotted wool, hand-tufted or machine-made, and what its fibers and dyes are, and only then recommend a method suited to that construction.
Fine wool and silk
We give fine wool and silk rugs specialty cleaning in the workshop, by professional hand washing adjusted to the piece. The sequence runs from inspection and dust removal, through a dye and fiber assessment and pre-treatment, to the hand wash, a thorough rinse, controlled drying and a final inspection.
We immerse a rug fully only when its construction and condition permit it. Our Oriental rug cleaning page sets out how we approach hand-knotted wool and silk.
Standard cleaning typically takes 5–7 business days, an estimate rather than a deadline. Specialty and delicate rugs can need longer, and you hear that timing at estimate. We do not promise that every stain or mark will come out.
Antique pieces in modern interiors
We look after antique rugs that now sit in modern interiors, and any work we do on them aims to preserve the original character of the piece, not just a clean look.
Where an older rug has a damaged section, hand reweaving can rebuild it by hand, matching wool and silk and dyeing yarn to color.
An invisible repair and a perfect color match are not things we promise. After inspection we recommend a treatment, and an estimated timeframe follows once the scope is set. Ghorban Ahmadi has performed conservation work for the State Hermitage Museum, the Musée du Louvre, and the British Museum.
Building access: what to confirm before pickup
Each Lincoln Park pickup is planned around stairs, elevators, building rules and loading access. Confirm these with us, and with your building, before the pickup date:
- Elevator reservations: whether your building requires one.
- Certificate of insurance: whether your building requires one for pickup.
- Loading and parking: parking, restricted loading and any loading dock rules.
- Doormen and building access: the building’s access rules.
- Staircases: any stairs between the rug and the street.
We need advance notice of each of these, and of any oversized or heavy rug, because some buildings require reservations or insurance documentation.
Appointments depend on route availability and on what your building allows, so we do not commit to serving every building on any given day. Our pickup and delivery page explains how collection and return work.
On the Chicago route
Lincoln Park sits on our Chicago route, with Friday as its typical route day, confirmed when you book.
Insured pickup and delivery is free within 5 miles of our Skokie workshop or our St. Charles location, and $75 round trip beyond. On larger orders and restoration projects we may waive the transportation fee; we tell you at estimate.
The same typical Friday route, confirmed when you book, also takes in Oak Park. Lakeview, Old Town and the Gold Coast are Lincoln Park’s neighbors on our route.
Before you send a rug
If you are worried about color bleeding, shrinkage, damage or loss, tell us. We identify the materials and construction, document the condition, and recommend a treatment before we go ahead.
