Kenilworth is the smallest of the North Shore villages — planned in 1889 by Joseph Sears as a lakefront community — laid out along the Lake Michigan bluffs with homes designed by architects working in the Prairie School tradition. Lot sizes are generous, interiors are formal, and the rugs inside these houses tend to be serious pieces — hand-knotted Persians in entry halls and dining rooms, silk and wool-silk rugs chosen as focal points, and antique pieces carried through several generations of the same family.
Rugs at this level of quality and age need a conservator’s approach, not a commodity cleaning service. Every rug we take in is dye-tested before washing, hand-cleaned with chemistry matched to its fiber, and dried flat under controlled conditions — the same method Ghorban Ahmadi refined while performing conservation work for the State Hermitage Museum, the Musée du Louvre, and the British Museum, and the reason Kenilworth homeowners and their interior designers send us their most valuable rugs.
