How We Resize — Tailored Techniques for Every Rug Type

Hand-Knotted Rugs

Precision size reductions with chalk-line mapping and corner squaring. Hand overcasting or binding finishes preserve integrity and visual balance.

Flatweaves & Kilims

Clean cuts with re-selvage to prevent fray, followed by re-tensioning and blocking for crisp geometry.”

Tufted & Machine-Made

Clean cuts with re-selvage to prevent fray, followed by re-tensioning and blocking for crisp geometry.

Ideal for repurposing a large area rug into a hallway or entryway runner. We map a precise centerline cut, preserve symmetrical borders where possible, and finish both new edges with hand overcasting or binding.
Use when: You’re transforming one oversized piece into a pair of long, elegant runners.

Perfect for redefining a room’s balance. We remove length or width to create a harmonious square proportion, often used under dining tables or for central seating areas.
Technique: Chalk-mapped reduction with equal margins on all sides, blocked to maintain geometry.

Achieved through a template-guided cut, continuous binding or serging, and blocking for a calm, lay-flat finish. Perfect for foyers, bay windows, and round dining tables.
Pro tip: Circular rugs require precision to prevent “flat spots” — our process ensures perfect curvature.

For bespoke interiors or architectural features, we create custom templates from your floor plan or furniture layout. Organic or irregular curves are hand-trimmed and edge-finished to complement unique spaces.
Example: Kidney, freeform, or arch shapes for designer projects.

We can divide one large rug into two balanced pieces—for matching suites or dual living areas. Both halves are cut along motif centerlines, re-edged, and blocked independently for symmetry.
Good for: Matching runners, twin seating zones, or when relocating a rug across two rooms.

Our Process

Consultation & Layout Plan

Share room photos, door clearances, and furniture footprint; we advise target dimensions for flow.

Specialist Assessment

Identify fiber, weave, border motifs, and patina; confirm whether resizing is advisable for value.

Chalk Map & Mock-ups

We chalk a cut plan that respects symmetry; complex borders/shape changes get digital mock-ups for approval.

Secure & Cut

We stabilize along the cut path, then reduce with controlled tension/support to avoid skew.

Re-Edging / Binding

Hand overcasting/binding for hand-knotted and flatweaves; binding + re-latex for tufted/machine-made; fringe reconstruction when a fringe edge is retained.

Blocking & Final Set

Re-tension and block so the resized rug lies flat and square.

Pad Trimming & Delivery

Custom-trim a felt + natural rubber pad; final groom and photo documentation included.
