Why it matters who does this

The rarest credential in rug conservation.

Most rug cleaners learned their trade from other rug cleaners. Ghorban Ahmadi learned his from museum conservation.

For nearly a decade he trained under conservators whose work served three of the world’s most significant textile collections — the Louvre in Paris, the British Museum in London, and the State Hermitage in Saint Petersburg.

The standard those institutions apply to their textile collections is the standard we apply to every rug in our Skokie workshop.

What we can restore

Full conservation treatment for antique and heirloom pieces

  • Pile reweaving and reconstruction
  • Foundation repair and restabilisation
  • Colour correction and sun-fade treatment
  • Moth damage treatment and repair
  • Fringe reconstruction
  • Full hand washing and conditioning

Every restoration begins with a full condition assessment. Bobby documents the piece before any treatment begins.

Often paired with restoration

RICA-certified appraisal available

Many antique rugs that come in for restoration are also candidates for a formal written appraisal — for insurance, estate, or pre-sale purposes.

Bobby Ahmadi is one of a small number of RICA-certified rug appraisers in the United States. His appraisals are accepted by Illinois courts, the IRS, and all major insurance carriers.

What clients say

Heirloom rugs brought back from beyond repair

  • ★★★★★
My oriental rugs were sitting in flood water for over a week. Ahmadi Rug did such a wonderful job, I decided to bring them my damaged rugs from my Florida home — one had extensive moth damage. The Ahmadi family worked to restore a rug that had very high sentimental value to me.

Wonderful! My handmade rug was restored and cleaned beautifully after having been on my floor for over 20 years with pets. The sides had been damaged from cats and the fringe was uneven. I had almost considered it beyond repair and was so surprised when it was rolled out in front of me.

Bobby and his crew are fabulous! Pick up, deliver, repair a damaged area of the wool, clean — all with a smile. So refreshing to do business the old fashioned way of care, high quality and trust.
